During a meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade on Oct. 30, 2013, a representative of Ukraine raised the issue of import ban for the Ukrainian Roshen confectionery corporation products by Russian Federation.

The position of the Ukrainian Government is that Russia has taken unjustified and discriminatory actions against the Ukrainian company, the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Cabinet of Ministers informs.

Ukraine called on Russia to lift the import ban immediately, as such activities cannot be justified by the articles of the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) and the commitments Russia has made while joining WTO.
Experts say Ukraine is interested in the development of trade relations with Russia. But these relations must be based on an equitable basis, in accordance with the Agreement on the Free Trade Zone in the CIS and the norms of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

According to experts, the Ukrainian Government and ROSHEN Corporation have shown their readiness to find a compromise in the question of unblocking access for Roshen Corporation products to the Russian markets.
In this regard, the representatives of Ukraine hope for balanced and objective position of Rospotrebnadzor (Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service), which should open an access for Roshen corporation products to the Russian market as soon as possible.

Actions by Russian authorities to block access of Roshen products to the Russian market will have a negative impact on the relations between two brotherly nations. In this regard, the Ukrainian government will be forced to defend the interests of domestic producers and file a claim to the WTO court.
