President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych bowed to the right hand of Georgiy Pobedonosets that was delivered to Kyiv Pechersk Lavra from the Holy Mountain Athos today, the press service of the head of state reports.
In Uspensky cathedral of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, where the relics have been delivered, the prayer has been conducted by metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary and metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chornobyl.
Metropolitan Anthony called the arrival of relics to Ukraine a historical event. He expressed gratitude to the Head of State and hegumen of Xenophontos Monastery Oleksiy for "an opportunity to touch the history of our church".
He also expressed gratefulness from His Beatitude, Metropolitan Vladimir of Kyiv and All Ukraine.
In his turn, hegumen Oleksiy who convoys relics in Ukraine expressed particular gratitude to Viktor Yanukovych for his "care, righteous work and opportunity to visit Ukraine".
He stressed that he brought the relics and icon of Georgiy Pobedonosets to Ukraine in order to bless Ukrainian people.
"We have brought the relics of Saint Georgiy for the believers to be able to come and bow to them. Let Saint Georgiy help everyone," he said.
