The European Parliament may recommend the EU Council EU to sign an Association Agreement with Ukraine if Kyiv fulfills all the necessary conditions, the draft resolution on the European Neighbourhood Policy: towards a strengthening of the partnership says.
Position of the European Parliament (EP) on the report of 2012 (European Commission) will be put to vote in the European Parliament at a meeting in Strasbourg on Wednesday.
"The EP recommends the Council to sign an Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine only if all criteria determined on December 10, 2012 by the EU Council of Foreign Ministers are met," the draft resolution stated.
However, the European Parliament expresses regret that the progress in meeting the requirements for the signing of the Association Agreement has not fully completed, and Ukraine still has a selective justice, and it still need carry out reforms of electoral and judicial systems.
"However, the EP welcomes the recent commitments of President Viktor Yanukovych and the opposition leaders to continue working on necessary legal acts of the Verkhovna Rada and expects rapid implementation of these commitments before the summit in Vilnius," the draft resolution notes.
