The CIS countries need to intensify the implementation of measures aimed at reducing the consumption of unsafe products, particularly tobacco, head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare of Russia (Rospotrebnadzor) Gennady Onishchenko said at the 5th meeting of the Advisory Council on Consumer Protection of the CIS states, ForUm correspondent reports.

"I would like to give an example of Europe, which today plans not only to limit the consumption of tobacco but to ban the production and sale of tobacco products throughout the EU. Thus 27 countries that is more than 300 million people will get rid of smoking," he said.

According to the Rospotrebnadzor head, the CIS countries are still at the stage of thinking how to limit smoking, although all countries signed with the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control with the World Health Organization (WHO).

On this basis, Onishchenko urged to increase efforts to combat smoking in the CIS countries.
