The Venice Commission recommends Ukraine to amend the bill on the prosecutor's office for full compliance with European standards.
This is stated in the report of the Commission on evaluation of Ukrainian law on the prosecutor's office.
In particular, the Venice Commission proposes to introduce a number of revisions to reduce the scope of influence of prosecutors.
In addition, the Commission draws attention to the provisions on the post of the Prosecutor General.
The Commission stresses that the position of Prosecutor General is dependent on the influence of other state officials.
The experts also express concern that the bill provides for unwarranted restriction of the media during coverage of investigation and prosecution.
The commission also notes the need to improve the process of bringing prosecutors to disciplinary action.
