An important goal of Ukraine's rapprochement with the EU is rising of living standards of ordinary citizens, German Ambassador to Ukraine Christof Weil said at the signing of the agreement on 7 million euros grant among the Cabinet of Ministers, the German bank KfW and the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund (USIF), ForUm correspondent reports.

"Europe will be successful and will develop only when we create the integral economic and political space for social development. It is in this perspective I consider this joint project, aimed at improving the quality of social services. We want to support Ukrainian local communities in the process of their approximation to European standards through our assistance, improvements in provision of services," the diplomat said.

He added that now is the historical moment as the forces of Ukraine and the European Union are aimed at preparing for the summit of "Eastern Partnership" in Vilnius.

"If you meet all the known requirements, the association agreement is signed. In addition to political and economic convergence, it will bring a gradual approach of Ukrainian social standards to the European level," Weil said.
