The Indian Coast Guard detained on Friday night the Seaman Guard Ohio ship under the flag of Sierra Leone. There were 25 armed men on board, including 14 citizens of Estonia and one Ukrainian, Estonian Television reported on Sunday.

The crew of American-owned vessel could not explain why the ship went into the Indian waters, The Hindu Indian newspaper writes. According to the Indian authorities, the crew members did not have the necessary documents for the firearms.

The Indian government also investigates whether the ship could take part in the illegal transportation of weapons. The crew assured that the ship was engaged in the provision of security services and they legally owned the weapons. According to the Maritime Bulletin portal, there were 14 Estonians, six Britons, four citizens of India and one Ukrainian on board.
