Since the beginning of 2013, the number of arrests in Ukraine has decreased by 41% compared to the same period in 2012.

This was announced by first deputy head of the Main Investigation Department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Oleksandr Honcharov, the Ministry’s press service reports.

"An important step in ensuring the rights of the suspect and the accused became the order of choosing a preventive measure, which is now done exclusively by an investigating judge. Therefore, the principle of distribution of judicial power is implemented," Honcharov said.

Head of the Main Investigation Department noted that more than 1.1 million applications and reports of crimes have been registered in the unified register of pre-trial investigations since the beginning of the year. 132 thousand offenses are registered monthly or almost 4.4 thousand a day.

In addition, Oleksandr Honcharov informed of new types of preventive measures - house arrest, personal recognizance, personal surety. Thus, the personal recognizance was chosen for 27 thousand suspects, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total number of the selected measures. House arrest was elected for 4.4 thousand suspects, bail - 737 persons, a personal surety - about 500 suspects.
