Ukraine has harvested almost 40 million tons of grain, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said, opening the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, ForUm correspondent reports.
"We have already harvested nearly 40 million tons of grain, which is by 15% more than last year. The total grain amount includes more than 22 million tons of wheat, 7.5 million tons of barley and 665 thousand tons of rye. Successful completion of the harvest of early grain provided our own needs in food grain," the Prime Minister said.
According to the head of the government, at the same time there was a difficult situation due to severe weather conditions, and it is still necessary to gather the rest of crops.
He also stressed that the special equipment, drying equipment and storage tanks were prepared in order to harvest the grain.
Azarov ordered the Agriculture Ministry to monitor constantly the situation and provide farmers with assistance.
