The proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin for intergovernmental consultations on the eve of signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement provides the basis for constructive negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. 

"Recently, important suggestions have been made by Russian President Vladimir Putin of holding bilateral the dialogue to find out the real impact of the FTA with the EU on trade and cooperation between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Such a position of the Russian leader creates a constructive basis for negotiation," Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said, opening the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to him, October 8, Astana hosted the Ukrainian- Russian intergovernmental consultations at the level of vice Prime Ministers. "Their goal was to determine the pros and cons of trade and economic relations with Russia after the signing of the Association Agreement. As vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuri Boiko reported, there was a constructive dialogue. We aim not just at finding out the problems, but also finding solutions to address the risks to our turnover," PM said.

Azarov noted that on October 15, the 15th meeting of the Committee on Economic Cooperation of Ukrainian-Russian interstate commission will be held in Russia. According to him, the meeting participants will touch upon the status and prospects of Ukrainian- Russian relations in various fields.
