The Verkhovna Rada adopted the government bill on reform of public administration in the road sector as a basis in the first reading.

As ForUm correspondent reported, 261 MPs voted for this bill.

As explained by infrastructure minister Vladimir Kozak, the bill proposes to decentralize government authority and give local authorities powers to manage local roads with appropriate funding.
"The local government knows better socio-economic needs of the region," the minister said.

According to him, the bill provides for amending the laws of Ukraine on roads, the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and local state administrations.

Under the changes, The State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine (Ukravtodor) shall manage the national roads, and regional state administrations - local roads.

The State Inspection of Ukraine for land Transport Security (Ukrtransinspektsiya) shall implement the state policy on land transport security issues, as well as monitor the quality of road construction works.
