Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated President of the Federal Republic of Germany Joachim Gauck and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on the occasion of the national holiday - the Day of German Unity, and thanked them for their help in the European integration of Ukraine.
"Without a doubt, the processes of late 1980's - early 1990's of the last century happened in Germany were not only crucial for development of the state of Germany, but also laid the basis for the formation of a new order in Europe. They also opened up new prospects for the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. We are grateful to Germany for help in implementing important reforms in Ukraine. We hope for the effective support of the Federal Republic of Germany for the European integration course of our country," congratulatory message to Gauck says.
Yanukovych expressed confidence that the Association Agreement with the EU, which is expected to be signed in Vilnius, will start a new stage in the Ukrainian-German relations.
"We appreciate the practical assistance of the government of Germany in the implementation of systemic reforms in Ukraine and the implementation of European integration policy of our state. We hope for the support of Germany in signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement at the summit of the "Eastern Partnership" in Vilnius," the message reads.
