Ukrainian schools have a lot of retired teachers, because young specialists do not want to work in the field of education, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said, opening the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

"I would like to highlight the biggest problem of our school, it is aging of the teaching staff. Today, schools employ 80 thousand teachers of retirement age, which is about 17% of the total number of teachers. And over the past ten years their number has increased by 15 thousand people. But the number of teachers under 30 decreases every year," Azarov said.

According to the Prime Minister, now Ukraine has a paradoxical situation, as the number of graduates of educational institutions is sufficient for the systematic renewal of personnel, but there is nobody to work.

"I instruct education and science minister Dmyto Tabachnyk to analyze critically the state of affairs and to propose urgently such changes to the regulatory framework, which would provide the graduates of educational institutions with work at schools, at least those who studied using budget funds," he instructed.

In his opinion, new incentives should be systematically developed to attract young people to the teaching work.
