It is too early to abolish the foreign currency deposit guarantee system for individuals in Ukraine, deputy governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Oleksiy Tkachenko told a roundtable, ForUm's correspondent reports.
"Together with the Deposit insurance fund we have analyzed the situation and found out that EU directives permit the deposit guarantee system to function for national currency only. For this we have regular disputes on the issue," he noted.
However, according to Tkachenko, considering the fact that dollarization of deposits in Ukraine remains high and makes 45% and that historically people prefer to deposit money in foreign currency, it is too early to abolish the guarantee system, at least for individuals.
