New flu strain is coming to Ukraine this year, Alla Myronenko, chief of the department of respiratory and viral infections of Grmashevski Institute of epidemiology and infectious diseases, told a press conference "Epidemiologic situation in Ukraine. Influenza vaccine", Forum's correspondent reports.
"There is a new flu strain, B/Massachusetts (2) B/Yamagata, which is different from the strain circulated in Ukraine last epidemiologic season," she said.
According to her, the virus will come with the second wave of disease, namely in February-March of the next year. It is as dangerous as any other new virus.
Meantime, the main pathogens of the first wave (end of December - beginning of April) are the same as last year - A/California (H1N1) and A/Victoria (H3N2), observed in Ukraine for the third year running.
Myronova underlined that experts did not expect any considerable increase in number of sick patients. "About 7-8 million citizens get sick with flu annually in Ukraine," she summed up.
