Ashton: Ukraine has potential for good relations with EU

Ukraine has potential for good and mutually beneficial economic relations with the European Union, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton said during a speech on Monday at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington.

"Ukraine has the potential for good relations with Europe, which undoubtedly will be economically beneficial for both sides as the two-way street. However, there are conditions, which still are to be fulfilled to achieve this goal," Ashton said. 

She recalled that preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius go on and Ukraine, among other things, should deal with the problem of selective justice, in particular concerning the release of ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
