
President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych noted the importance of accelerating the modernization of the Security Council of the United Nations.
"In our opinion, the early progress in the modernization of the UN Security Council is crucial," the President said during a speech at the 68th session of the UN General Assembly, ForUm learned from the President’s press office.
"I would like once again to witness the readiness of Ukraine for the discussion of the concepts of progressive reform of the Security Council that will accelerate the implementation of the already long-overdue change," he added.
The Head of State is sure that such a reform must necessarily provide for taking into account the legitimate interests of all regional groups, including the Eastern European.
"We are talking about the need to provide the states of our region with one additional non-permanent seat in the expanded Security Council," Yanukovych said.
"Ukraine supports determination to achieve the long-awaited practical progress in the UN reformation," Yanukovych said.
