A citizen of Ukraine is on board of the Arctic Sunrise ship, detained by Russian FSB border guards for action in defense of the Arctic near the "Gazprom" platform of in the Pechora Sea, ForUm learned from the Russian office of the "Greenpeace".

As representative of the "Greenpeace" in the Russian Federation Mikhail Kreindlin noted, the Ukrainian was not involved in the protest.

"Our activists on board came up to the platform of "Gazprom" with a peaceful, non-violent protest in defense of the Arctic. A citizen of Ukraine did not participate in that. He was just on the ship – he is sea cook. The vessel was detained by the Border Service, a group of special forces landed on the ship. Now the ship is delivered to the port of Murmansk for investigation. In addition, for reasons completely unknown to us, Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the article "piracy." This is absurd. So far, do not have connection with the vessel. But we know that all are alive and well," Kreindlin explained.

In turn, spokesman of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis confirmed staying of a Ukrainian citizen on board.

He noted that the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine keeps the situation under control.  We are in contact with the Russian side. Situation is monitored," Perebyinis said.
