MPs broad Accounts Chamber powers

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the Article 98 of the Constitution of Ukraine concerning the powers of the Accounts Chamber.

380 MPs voted for the proposal of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.

"This bill has passed all instances. There are all reasons and political preconditions for its adoption. It conforms to the international standards in this sphere. Broadening of powers of the Chamber will actually enhance control over distribution of the state budget. This process will become public and transparent. The bill will allow the Parliament and the Ukrainian society to have more information about the public finances," representative of the President in the Parliament Yuri Miroshnichenko said.

In turn, the opposition MPs recalled that during the consultations they required each faction to be represented in the Accounts Chamber.
