The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation called "parasitism" the Ukraine's desire to join only certain provisions of the Customs Union, profitable for the country. This was stated by head of the first department for the CIS of the Russian Foreign Ministry Ilya Rubtsov today in Moscow at a conference on "Cross-border cooperation as a factor of Eurasian integration".
"Many times, when Ukraine has been involved in the creation of the Eurasian Economic Space, it has actually restricted its position to join the provisions "which we want and which are profitable". It is even a kind parasitism," Rubtsov said. He clarified that such a position is now kept in relation to the Customs Union.
The diplomat stressed that each member had to sacrifice something when the Customs Union had been established.
According to him, there are sectors of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, which suffered losses from the creation of a single market, but the overall gain is greater.
He noted that since the establishment of the CU, the trade turnover among the three countries has increased by 40%, and Ukraine's accession would develop mutual trade more effectively.
In turn, head of the first department for the CIS of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vladimir Kudryavtsev said that the Eurasian integration has primarily an economic component.
According to him, in the EU there is a more centralized policy and the Member States have to subject to "the dictates of the center".
Kudryavtsev assured that membership in the Customs Union and the future Eurasian Economic Union allows to preserve sovereignty.
