The Foreign Ministry said that the mechanism of cooperation between Ukraine and the Customs Union should not contradict the national strategy on European integration.
This was stated by deputy foreign minister of Ukraine Andriy Olefirov at the international conference "The role of international organizations in Ukraine's national security."
He noted that in the development of relations with the Russian Federation, Ukraine has been always based on the principles of cooperation, respect, and search for mutually beneficial solutions.
"In this context, we will continue exploring all available options for the establishment of an appropriate mechanism of cooperation with the Customs Union," Olefirov said.
"The mechanism of co-operation should be based on national legislation and not contradict the national strategy of Ukraine on European integration, because our goal is to expand, rather than limit... We are interested in deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia, rather than creating additional obstacles, whatever they may be," he added.
Olefirov noted that Ukraine does not choose the Customs Union or the European Union, it proceeds from the national interests.
