The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has allowed the Ukrainians to continue using the Soviet-type driver's license after January 1, 2014. The Parliament adopted the bill on amendments to the law of Ukraine "On the unified state demographic register and documents, which confirm the citizenship of Ukraine, identifying the personality or special status." ForUm correspondent reports.
According to the speaker, author of this bill, MP of the Party of Regions Valentyn Nechyporenko, it is not necessary to change driver's license for owners of the Soviet-type driving license after these changes entry into force.
According to him, currently about one million drivers still have the Soviet-type driving licenses, and 90% of them - senior citizens who do not go abroad.
Nechyporenko also added that the State Traffic Inspectorate supports these changes.
