The Cabinet of Ministers reviewed the preparations for the signing of the draft EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. According to the government portal, the meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

The Cabinet’s press service noted that it was decided to adopt additional measures to inform the nation's leading companies, industry associations of producers about the benefits and possibilities of a deep and comprehensive free trade area between Ukraine and the EU within the framework of the Association Agreement.

"A free trade area offers opportunities to increase exports to the EU states and the opportunities must be used correctly. At the same time, the Agreement defines protective measures and transition periods provided for in order to minimize the possible negative consequences for domestic manufacturers, and these tools should be used to improve the competitiveness of domestic goods and services," the statement reads.

The responsibility for this work will be entrusted to the Economic Development Ministry in cooperation with the Industrial Policy Ministry, the Agrarian Policy Ministry, the Infrastructure Ministry and the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry.

"These ministries are also tasked to study the possibility of consultations with the EU and the Russian Federation, including in a trilateral format with the aim of effective application of the provisions of the FTA with the CIS and Association Agreement with the EU in terms of the FTA," the government summed up.
