Ukraine has chosen Dutch company Royal Dutch Shell for shale gas extraction in Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, because the company has the latest technology for the safe extraction of gas in these densely populated areas, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said in the Shuster Live program on the Inter TV Channel on Friday.
"Shell is the largest company that has the latest technology for safe shale gas extraction," he said, Ukrinform reported.
The Premier specified that negotiations with Shell had been conducted for two years.
Azarov said that the contract signed with Shell on September 12 is mutually beneficial. "We will gain some energy independence, whereas Shell will earn its money," he said.
