European integration must not be set against cooperation between Ukraine and other integration associations, in particular the Customs Union, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during a dialogue with the staff of the "Motor" Lutsk Repair Plant, the President’s press office reports.
Yanukovych noted that Ukraine has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Customs Union. According to him, now the documents of this cooperation are being studied.
"We have to consider these provisions at the level of our experts, government. If this is in line with our national interests, is not contrary to international obligations, we will join them, prepare the relevant documents, submit them for review. If they agree, then we go through these procedures in all four countries," he said.
Speaking about the preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union, Yanukovych said: "We do not have unsolved issues. Now everything comes to conclusion".
According to him, the agreement has been already initialed by both sides at the level of experts. "There is a question of signing, and then - the ratification by the 28 EU member states and Ukraine in the parliaments. Then it enters into force," the President said.
Yanukovych noted that Ukraine has been moving towards European integration for more than 10 years and during that time, the state has approached much closer to European standards, particularly in the legislative arena.
