The number of judgments of acquittal in Ukraine has increased fourfold, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka stated at the 18th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors in Moscow.

"The lack of evidence against a defendant, procedural mistakes of a prosecutor or an investigator lead to acquittal," the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office quoted him as saying.

Pshonka noted that this position of the legislator is determined by equality of parties to the criminal process and ensuring of implementation of the principle of presumption of innocence.

Thus, he said that the criminal process in Ukraine is very close to international standards.
