In Ukraine, one in six criminal proceedings sent to the court ends with conclusion of agreement of reconciliation, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka reported at the World annual conference of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) in Moscow.
"A prosecutor makes a decision on the conclusion of agreements between the prosecution and the defense on recognizing guilt and reconciliation of the suspect with the victim. And, despite the fact that this institution is new for our legal system, it is widely used and is the undisputed step forward in the democratization of justice," Pshonka said.
According to him, the agreement became effective mechanism to reduce pre-trial investigation, the restoration of the rights of victims, as well as the remedy for criminals.
