This year, prosecutors appealed judgments in criminal proceedings five times less than in the previous year under the laws of 1960, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka reported at the World annual conference of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) in Moscow.

According to him, the provisions of the new Code of Criminal Procedure contributed to this positive result, providing for the implementation of the principle of irremovability of a prosecutor at all stages of the criminal proceedings.

"In other words, the public prosecution is conducted by the prosecutor, who led the pre-trial investigation procedure. Thus, the role of the prosecutor in criminal proceedings, as well as its responsibility for the final result, has been enhanced," Pshonka said.
