Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization Lassina Zerbo believes that Ukraine will be able to convince the states, which refused to sign the treaty, to change their mind.
"Ukraine occupies a strategic position between the western and eastern world. It showed the way, in which you need to go for abandoning nuclear tests. We need a voice of Ukraine to convince those states that refuse to sign the treaty. I'm here today to hold talks with diplomats and people, who will make political decisions to help make the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban the international law," Zerbo told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.
According to him, the countries refusing to ban the use of nuclear weapons motivate it by the need to raise the level of national security.
"I will meet with members of the government, the Prime Minister, the vice Prime Minister. Our conversation will be dedicated to Ukraine’s support for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty , the problem of its ratification and how Ukraine could set an example for non-nuclear potential towards global disarmament and peace," he said.
In addition, Zerbo reminded that the international monitoring system, which recorded three nuclear tests in North Korea, is located in town of Malyn (Zhytomyr region).
