Organic production to be labeled under European norms

Organic agricultural products will be marked on the European model.

The relevant draft law on the production and circulation of organic agricultural products and raw materials with the proposals of the President was supported by 302 MPs, ForUm correspondent reports.

The President, in particular, returned the draft law to the Parliament not agreeing with the norm that products containing the inorganic ingredients can be labeled as organic. The proposals of the President say that such an approach to the labeling of products poses a risk of deceiving consumer and does not meet the European practice.

Meanwhile, representative of the President in the Parliament Yuri Miroshnichenko said that Yanukovych returned the bill to the Parliament since certification, labeling, production of organic production can not be done by one institution that combines the functions of certification and state supervision.

In accordance with European practice, the President proposed to provide in the law for procedure for labeling products, which are in the process of transition to organic production.
