Ukraine plans to achieve extraction of 105 million tons of coal a year, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said in an interview with Ukrainian television channels broadcast on the 1+1 TV channel on Friday.

"While we extracted 68-69 million tons of coal in 2009, this year we’ll have 86-87 million tons or 17-18 million tons more. Our goal is to reach around 105 million tons," he said, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

Yanukovych said that the government plans to completely replace natural gas used in the metal sector and some other economic sectors with coal.

As reported, Ukrainian coalmines produced 47.761 million tons of coal in January-July 2013.
