Analysis of citizens’ appeals showed confidence in the police, interior minister of Ukraine Vitaly Zakharchenko said, Ministry’s press service informs.
He also noted that only a small portion of appeals refers to the competence of the Ministry. The number of complaints about the police and thanks for the faithful performance of their duties by police officers is approximately the same.
"The first phase of my on-site receptions of citizens is over. Everyone could come and complain about any known violations of the law," Zakharchenko said.
"It should be noted that with a sufficiently large amount of complaints (more than 950), only 51 deals specifically with misconduct of the Interior Minister officers. It is just slightly over 5% of the total. Thanks to the policemen are about of the same number," he said.
Zaharchenko noted that most voiced complaints related to violations committed in the course of criminal investigations in the past years. Some of these violations took place 6-7 years ago.
"In my opinion, the fact that people go to the police with all their problems, shows the confidence of the citizens in us," the minister said.
