Chairman of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in the European Parliament Pawel Kowal thinks that the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine should be signed before the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius due in November 2013.

"The conclusions from recent events [the recent strain in relations between Russia and Ukraine before the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement] should be the following: we have to be brave. I have to shock you – the Association Agreement should not be signed in Vilnius, it should be signed tomorrow, next week in Kyiv or Brussels. This should be done as soon as possible," Kowal said on Wednesday in Brussels during an unscheduled meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The MEP noted that the signing of the agreement could bring relations between Kyiv and Moscow back to normal, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

Other MEPs also expressed the EU’s full support for Ukraine.

"It’s not just about trade and not only about Ukraine. The EU has to resist Russian pressure and protect Ukraine and its right to a free choice," MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski said.

He also said that Russia is oppressing not only Ukraine, but also Moldova and Armenia.

"The entire European partnership is under threat," he said and suggested that the European Parliament should pass a relevant resolution.
