On the eve of the heating season 2013-2014, Ukraine continues to insist on the need for injection of 14 billion cubic meters of natural gas into its underground storage facilities, while Russia believes that Ukraine will be able to survive severe temperature conditions only with amount of 18-19 billion cubic meters, energy and coal industry minister of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky said, ForUm correspondent reports.

"Negotiations on this issue are ongoing. Chairman of the Naftogaz of Ukraine Yevhen Bakulin is now in the Russian Federation. Partners need to solve problems together," minister stressed.

Stavytsky stressed that Ukraine needs no more than 14 billion cubic meters of natural gas, while Russia insists on 18-19 billion cubic meters.

In turn, regional development, construction, housing and utilities minister of Ukraine Hennady Temnyk told a briefing that now there is enough gas in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities to safely overwinter.

It is expected that the temperature conditions this winter will be the same as last year. According to Temnyk, 8.5 billion cubic meters of gas were used in 2012-2013 heating season. This year, given the reduction in natural gas consumption by 5%, Ukraine needs 8.1 bcm of gas, which had been already injected in domestic underground gas storage facilities.
