Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent greetings to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on the occasion of Ukraine’s national holiday, Independence Day, the Kremlin press service reported on Saturday.

In his greeting message, the Russian chief of state highly praised a comprehensive nature of Russian-Ukrainian ties and pointed out that his recent meetings with the Ukrainian President in Kyiv and Sevastopol, the joint celebration of the 1025th anniversary of the Christianization of the Kyivan Rus, Russian Navy Day and Ukrainian Fleet Day once again confirmed the inviolability of centuries-long traditions of friendship and neighborliness, Interfax-Ukraine informed.

Vladimir Putin expressed willingness to continue to step up mutually beneficial Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in the areas of politics, economy and humanities and promote promising projects both in the bilateral format and within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the Russian and Ukrainian peoples’ interests, the message noted.
