Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated his compatriots on the Independence Day and urged them to unite for the sake of the development of economically strong, democratic and independent country.
"22 years ago, Ukraine gained its political sovereignty. Today, our country makes everything to achieve economic stability and welfare. The path of our country demonstrates that we are able to develop our own state responsibly and independently," the statement of the head of state says on the occasion of the Day of Independence of Ukraine, which was posted on the official website of the President on Saturday.
Yanukovych urged all Ukrainian citizens in difficult times for the world "to unite for the sake of our common goal – establishment of economically powerful, democratic and independent Ukraine that would be the reason for pride for our parents and future generations."
"I am confident that we are capable of this. Together, we will build a prosperous and socially fair state. I believe in the Ukrainian people, its millennial wisdom, power and perseverance," the President stressed.
He also reminded that Ukraine recently celebrated a significant holiday - 1025th anniversary of Christianization of Kievan Rus'. Christianization became a historical milestone that brought Kievan Rus' to the new civilizational level and led it to the family of Christian European nations.
