CIS Executive Committee refutes readiness to settle Ukraine, Russia trade disputes

The Executive Committee of the CIS refuted information about a letter on problems at customs between Russia and Ukraine.

"The CIS Executive Committee is not aware of the existence of such a document. The letters, which the media refer to, does not exist," the CIS Executive Committee spokesperson said.

Ukrainian media, referring to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, spread information that the CIS Executive Committee in its letter expressed willingness to contribute to the settlement of customs complications arising between Ukraine and Russia. The letter allegedly stated that the introduction of Russian customs restrictions contradicts the agreement on the establishment of a free trade area between the countries of the CIS.

As emphasized by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, "resolution of bilateral economic disputes between states" is beyond the competence of the executive committee.
