Day of the National Flag of Ukraine is a holiday of the unity of all citizens and patriots regardless of region of residence, religion, or political affiliation.
This is stated in the address of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to the Ukrainian people on the occasion of the holiday, published on the official website of the President.
"Today we celebrate the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine - the great state sanctity, which embodies the fundamental values of the Ukrainian people. ... Blue and yellow flag embodies the age-old desire of Ukrainians to peacefully work under clear skies on their land, ensuring their well-being, building a progressive society, integrated into the modern world.
State Flag of Ukraine is the integral symbol of independence and pride for our Fatherland and a sign of our identity. We praise everyone, who created the rich history and is now making significant efforts for the sake of a decent future of Ukraine," address says.
The President also urged Ukrainians to cherish and respect the state and its symbols.
