A solemn ceremony of hoisting the National Flag of Ukraine took place on the territory of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry on the occasion of the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine, ForUm correspondent reports.
The ceremony was attended by defense minister Pavlo Lebedev, chief of the General Staff - Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Colonel General Volodymyr Zamana, board members and heads of the Defense Ministry departments.
In addition, as the Defense Ministry press service reported, the national flags are raised on all ships of the Ukrainian Navy. In Lviv at 10.00 a.m., helicopter pilots of the Ground Forces Academy will perform a demonstration flight with the Ukrainian flag, which is listed in the Ukrainian Book of Records as the biggest one. Its length is 21.6 m, width - 14.4 m, a total area is 311 sq.m.
Day of the National Flag of Ukraine is marked every year on August 23. This date is set in August 2004, according to the Presidential Decree № 987/2004. Prior to that, Flag Day was celebrated only in Kyiv at the municipal level.
