The Party of Regions faction is unlikely to support the bill of the faction member Vadym Kolesnichenko, which proposes to cancel the item on European integration in the law on principles of domestic and foreign policy. One of the leaders of the Party of Regions Mykhailo Chechetov said this.
"This is a personal opinion of the MP. Faction has not considered the bill yet, and, most likely, will not support it because it does not coincide with the line of the foreign policy of the President and the government," Chechetov said.
However, Chechetov considers logical Kolesnychenko’s idea of the need to hold a referendum on Association with the European Union. "We need to recognize that from a legal point of view, the position of Kolesnychenko is invulnerable because it appeals to the will of the people in the key issues for the country. Any integration requires sacrificing part of a country’s sovereignty, and the people must determine whom they are ready to give this part of the sovereignty or not to give it at all," the MP said.
