Russia and Ukraine must respect international law, including, under bilateral customs dispute, head of the EU delegation in Moscow Fernando Valenzuela said on Wednesday on air of the "Echo of Moscow" radio station.

"We are pleased that this issue seems to have been solved ... Russia and Ukraine must respect international laws, both countries are the WTO members," Valenzuela said. The diplomat stressed that the economic pressure and threats are unacceptable in international relations.

Valenzuela said that the EU is now negotiating with Ukraine on free trade area. "We hope that we will sign the agreement in the near future," he said. Signing, according to the diplomat, may take place at the summit of "Eastern Partnership", which is scheduled for November 2013.

The diplomat did not linked tension in Russian-Ukrainian relations with steps of Ukraine's rapprochement with the EU. "I hope that there is no connection," he said.
