Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev 3-4 years ago directly warned Ukraine that signing of the document on the FTA with the EU on the terms dictated by the EU, will lead to consequences we feel now. Ukraine did not take it seriously, director of the Ukrainian branch of the CIS countries Vladimir Kornilov told ForUm correspondent in exclusive commentary.
According to the political analyst, Ukraine is shown what will be result of blocking economic and customs borders with Russia. "If now the Ukrainian producers and the government do not understand what challenges Ukraine will face after the Vilnius summit, we have a short-sighted government," he said.
He stressed that the Ukrainian economy is more dependent on Russia than vice versa. "Russia is interested in maintaining a high trade turnover with Ukraine in the Ukrainian market. However, dependence of the Ukrainian economy on the partners in the CIS and the Customs Union is higher than Russia's dependence on Ukraine. Just look at the share of exports of Russia and Ukraine. If we pass to the real economic war, it will hit the Russian Federation, but it will affect more the economy of Ukraine," the analyst stressed.
