Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov stands for a significant strengthening of responsibility for drunk driving.
"We must strengthen responsibility for drunk driving and for concealing or falsifying materials of such crimes," he said at the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.
The Prime Minister noted that 1051 road accidents have been caused by drunk drivers in Ukraine in 2013. In these accidents, he said, 138 people were killed and 1.399 injured.
"Moreover, rather often the whole country found out with indignation about the facts when the accident occurred due to drunken representatives of the authorities. The worst thing is that children were killed in such accidents," Azarov added.
The PM said that the main reason for misconduct of civil servants is sense of impunity on the part of the state.
Summing up, Azarov stressed that every case of accidents caused by drunken state officials should be assessed immediately, namely, "they must bear the most severe punishment."
