The number of schoolchildren in Ukraine has reduced over 20 years of independence, deputy education and science minister Borys Zhebrovsky said.

"There were 6 million 300 thousand school students in 1990, now we have four million. Can you imagine, "minus" 2.3 million students for twenty years," he noted.

Thus, according to him, teachers now cling to each academic hour. "Teachers are afraid of retirement because of small pension. Moreover, it is psychologically difficult. So they cling to every hour. There are no vacancies - young people are not coming. One specialist is coming to a district in Rivne, Ternopil regions. In Kyiv, their number became five times less than it was twenty years ago. The school is getting older," official added.
