Euro 2012 helped Ukraine attract tourists from all over the world and enter into the list of 12 most popular countries, compiled by the World Tourism Organization, professor at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) Christian Loesser expressed such a opinion in exclusive comments to BTB TV channel.
Lesser commented on the concept of the State Program of Tourism and Resorts, recently passed by the Cabinet.
"I hope that this program will help develop sites with potential. It is better to spend money on a few promising tourist attractions, than on many unpromising," he said.
According to the professor, Ukraine strengths are its cultural and historical heritage, as well as access to the sea.
"In general, I will say that Ukraine has quite a good position in world tourism. You have such cities as Kyiv. On the other hand - you have Crimea. There are different types of tourism in Ukraine. Therefore, it is rationally to develop infrastructure in such a country," Lesser says.
Among other factors of success of the tourism industry, Lesser called marketing of promising resorts and stability of the regulatory framework, which draws attention of investors.
