The Venice Commission hopes that Ukraine will approve the changes to the electoral law in the coming weeks, member of the European Commission "For Democracy through Law" ("Venice Commission"), Peter Paczolay said during a round table, ForUm correspondent reports.

"The Venice Commission is aware that not much time is left. It is therefore important to adopt changes to the electoral law in the near future, possibly in the next few weeks," he said. 

Member of the Commission also thanked the Justice Ministry of Ukraine for the prompt provision of all necessary materials in English, and expressed the hope that the dialogue between the parties will continue.

"Experts consider that the current system is really complicated, and it needs to be simplified. This is a difficult question," Paczolay said.

In turn, the OSCE representative Armen Mazmanian noted that effective in Ukraine rule prohibiting run for deputies to a person with a criminal record, is discriminatory, that’s why European experts advise Ukrainian authorities to remove this provision from the legislation.
