Pechersky district court of Kyiv ruled the detention and forced delivering to court of the suspect, former rector of the National Tax Service University (Irpin, Kyiv region), former MP Petro Melnyk, who escaped Aug. 9 from house arrest, to elect him the preventive measure.

Prosecutor Serhiy Ovcharenko told journalists that the ruling allows investigators to put Melnyk on international wanted list through Interpol.

Ovcharenko also noted that changing the measure of restraint for the suspect can not be chosen without his participation in the trial.

During the trial, investigator Oleg Zaitsev said that the summons was sent to the address where Melnyk was supposed to be under the court’s ruling, but the suspect was not there.

After that, the investigator added that Melnyk voluntarily withdrew electronic bracelet and without the knowledge of the investigator or the prosecutor left the place of residence.

In this regard, the investigator asked the Pechersky Court to grant him permission to detain the Melnyk.

At the same time, defense of Melnyk considered motion of the investigator unreasonable because their client was not properly notified of the hearing.
