The former rector of the Tax Academy Petro Melnyk escaped from house arrest, Interior Ministry press office reports.
"The suspect, Petro Melnyk, who was under house arrest escaped by getting rid of an electronic bracelet. The alarm went on the monitoring panel over persons under house arrest. Now, the investigative team works. The necessary measures to search for the suspect are taken," the report says.
Interior minister Vitaly Zakharchenko has already appointed an official investigation into all the circumstances of the incident.
The Ministry press office noted that this morning investigator filed a petition to change Melnyk’s measure of restraint from house arrest to detention. "The suspect was informed with this petition in advance, in accordance with the Article 184 of the Code of Criminal Procedure," the Ministry informed.
"Interior Ministry addresses the citizens for help in obtaining information about possible stay of Melnyk," press office report reads.
