Prime Minister Mykola Azarov is sure that a high grain crop is a guarantee of stable prices for bread and bakery products this year. He said this during the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.
He informed that as of today, 30 million tons of grain were collected: 22 million tons of wheat, more than 7 million tons of barley and more than 600 tons of rye.
According to him, this year's harvest is expected to be over 57 million tons, with 75% of grain of food condition, allowing to fully meet the needs of the domestic market and ensure food stability during the marketing year.
"Public procurement fixed grain prices at an acceptable level for farmers and have created a guarantee of stable prices for bread and bakery products. The state, through the Agrarian Fund advanced to producers on forward purchases nearly 1 billion UAH under the obligation to put more than one million tons of grain in the public stocks. Other 1.3 million tons of grain were contracted by the State Food Grain Corporation. Regional grain reserves are also actively formed," he said.
Prime Minister informed that the domestic grain consumption is expected to reach 28.4 million tons, and export potential – more than 28 million tons.
