Azarov checks public utilities tariffs growth

Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov instructed to check justification of the increase in tariffs for public utilities in the regions and to report on the audit within a week, the Cabinet’s press office reports. 

According to the statement, the cost of water supply, drainage and maintenance of houses and buildings and adjoining areas in some settlements of Crimea, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv and Cherkasy regions increased during the last week after the tariffs revision by local authorities.

The Prime Minister emphasized the inadmissibility of unjustified price increases for the population. The issue of tariffs should be thoroughly investigated, the feasibility of increase - economically justified. Illegally increased tariffs for housing services should be reduced to the previous level, the report says.

Azarov charged the Regional Development Ministry to carefully deal with the problem of tariff increases, which is particularly acute in the last week, and took the matter under its personal control.
